Audio Analyzers

With the help of this small computer any sound can be broken down and analyzed. The Audio Analyzer can distinguish a single voice in a crowd of a hundred people. It can also identify a sound and determine what creature made it (1500 sounds have been programmed into it, and up to 1000 other sounds can be added). An unknown sound can be analyzed, and through a result of the analysis there is a 50% chance the analyzer can determine the size, weight, and type (animal, reptile, bird, monster, etc.) of creature that made the sound. Audio Analyzers have their own microphone to pick up external sounds or they can be connected to any other audio system, including those on bots and vehicles.
Weight: 4 lbs. (1.8 kg). The analyzer is about 1 foot wide by 2 feet long (0.3 m by 0.6 m).

Body Monitor

The Body Monitor is a system used to monitor the conditions of a group of people. They have the same capabilities as the Portable Bio-Scans (Rifts RPG, p. 246), however they are capable of monitoring more than one person.
The Body Monitor system consists of the main monitoring system (about half the size of a brief case) and a sensor unit for each person in the group (to a maximum of twenty). Each sensor unit consists of smaller sensors attached to different parts of the body. The smaller sensors are connected to a miniature radio transmitter that broadcasts the sensor readings back to the main monitoring system (range 5 miles/8 kilometers). The medic can monitor each individuals vitals, including heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, body temperature, and other body changes. The medic can also check the to see if there are any toxins or drugs in the system and check levels of natural drugs such as adrenaline and endorphins. In a matter of seconds, the medic can determine the exact condition of any member of the group. Note that only a medic (someone with a paramedic skill or higher) can understand the readouts of a Body Monitor system.
Weight: The main monitoring system weighs 10 lbs. (4.5 kg). Each sensor unit weighs 2 lbs. (0.9 kg).

Cost: 8000 credits for the main monitoring system, 1000 credits for each sensor unit.

Containment Chambers

Containment Chambers are special isolation chambers designed to store biological specimens. Once closed and activated they are completely isolated from the surrounding environment. They can even withstand the vacuum of space. Their internal temperature can be maintained anywhere from 10 degrees to 200 degrees Fahrenheit (-12o to 93o Centigrade). The pressure of the container can be modified as well. A separate oxygen supply can be connected to provide fresh air to any creatures inside the chamber. In short, the inside of the chamber can be modified to duplicate any type of environment.
Containment Chambers are used extensively by scientists in the field, who keep as many as possible around to collect samples. They also make excellent storage areas for keeping consumables fresh (while inside the chamber, food will not go bad or become contaminated).
Weight: 10 lbs. (4.5 kg) per cubic foot (0.3 m), with a minimum of 1 cubic foot.

A Floater is a small disc shaped bot with a camera and hover system. The floater is quick and maneuverable, able to dodge incoming attacks. The camera can keep a constant fix on its target regardless of the outside conditions (high wind, combat, etc.). The floater records information on to 1-inch diameter (2.5 cm) laser discs, with each disc able to hold 48 hours of video and audio. The bot can hold five such discs at one time. The floater responds to voice commands and is capable of limited decision making (see the Artificial Intelligence section under Computers), though the floater itself is incapable of speech. Floaters can be programmed with the layout of a complex and/or surrounding terrain to aid in espionage purposes.
Floaters have a number of functions. They can be programmed to follow a specific individual (either openly or discreetly) or they can be used as a portable recording device. Floaters can also be programmed for reconnaissance (infiltrate a certain area, record information, and return to base). Floaters are often used in combat situations to keep a record of the battle for future reference.

*These systems are small and difficult to hit, requiring a called shot at -5 to target. Once the hover system is knocked out then the camera is immobilized. If the sensor system is knocked out then the bot’s recording capabilities are gone and the bot becomes completely blind. Under such conditions the bot will immediately shut down.

**If the main body is destroyed then the floater is knocked out of commission.

Leaping: Not possible.

Flying: 40 mph (64 kph) maximum. The bot’s hover system is very complex, allowing it to hover in place, fly sideways, or even backwards. Maximum altitude is 600 feet (183 m).

Range: Battery power for 72 hours of continuous use. The bot can plug itself into most power sources for a recharge (two hours for a full recharge).

Optics: The floater has full optical capabilities, including visible light spectrum, infrared, ultraviolet, polarization, passive night vision, thermo-imaging, and telescopic (2 miles). All of this information can be recorded on to a laser disc.
Hearing: In addition to normal stereo hearing, the bot has amplified hearing and ultra ear. Also has a wide band receiver and transmitter (range of 50 miles/80 km with a retractable antenna, half when antenna is retracted).
Motion Detector: 100 foot radius (30.5 m).
Programming and Memory enables the floater to identify up to 2000 different targets and can be programmed with up to 1000 more.
