CSC600 / DMB PC Connection Kit Manual
PC Connection Kit Introduction.
The PC connection kit allows you to download the results from the CSC600 / DMB via a PC terminal program to a PC after carrying out a test, the data sent to the PC is in text delimited format (each value is separated by a comma and a new line with a carriage retune, line feed) that will allow you to import the results into a spreadsheet or database.

Check you have the following in the supplied Kit.
1 x RS232 cable.

1 x 3.5in floppy disk.

1 x PC connection kit manual.

Set up.

The following examples uses the Microsoft Windows Hyper terminal as this is normally supplied with the Windows operation system, however any terminal program should be suitable.

Floppy Disk:
Insert the floppy disk into your computer, on this disk you will find two Hyper terminal files CSC600_Com1.ht and CSC600_Com2.ht copy them to your hard disk, theses are the configuration files that will set the communication protocol for Hyper terminal so it can except data from the CSC600 / DMB.

If you are going to use a different terminal program to capture the CSC600 / DMB data then you should set your communication protocol (COM port settings) to the following.

Bits per second (baud rate)

300

Data bits

7

Parity

Even

Stop bits

1

Flow control (hand shake)

none

RS232 cable.
Plug one end of the cable into the 9 way ‘D’ plug on the back panel of the Sieve Analyser, plug the other end into one of your free COM ports on your PC.

Using Hyper terminal to capture the CSC600 / DMB results.

There are two ways you can start Hyper terminal.

  1. Double click on one of the configure files that were on the floppy disk

Double click CSC600_Com1.ht if you have connected the RS232 cable to COM 1 port.

Double click CSC600_Com2.ht if you have connected the RS232 cable to COM 2 port.

  1. Mouse click on the windows Start bar, then select Run, in the Open box type Hypertrm.exe then Mouse click OK.

This will star Hyper terminal, the first thing that will be displayed is the connection description window, just mouse click the Cancel box.
Next mouse click File, Open, select one of the configure files that were on the floppy disk.
CSC600_Com1.ht if you have connected the RS232 cable to COM 1 port.
CSC600_Com2.ht if you have connected the RS232 cable to COM 2 port.

Hyper terminal is now configured and ready to except data form the CSC600 / DMB.

Saving your CSC600 / DMB data to disk.

Before you start to run your tests you need to tell the terminal program to store the incoming data to a file, again this example applies to Hyper terminal but other terminal programs will have this save function.

  • In the Hyper terminal window mouse click Transfer then Capture Text….

  • This will open the Capture Text dialogue box, type the name of the file you want to save the data to then mouse click Start

  • All data sent from the CSC600 / DMB will now be saved to the file.

  • When you have finished running your test or tests you will need to end the save to file function.

  • In the Hyper terminal window mouse click Transfer then Capture Text….

then Stop.

This file is now ready to import into a Spreadsheet or database as a text delimited file, see your appropriate manual for the Spreadsheet or data base software you are using regarding importing data.
