Section 5. There shall be no hazing of any type in Phi Mu Fraternity.

Section 6. No illegal drugs shall be stored, kept, or used by members or provisional members, nor shall they be stored, kept, or used in chapter facilities by non-members.

Section 7. Alcohol shall not be served at Phi Lambda functions unless in strict compliance with Fraternity Risk Avoidance policy, in keeping with the Fraternity promotion of responsible alcohol use and responsible risk management its members.

Section 8. Participation of Phi Mu members in auxiliary organization to men’s fraternities (“Little Sister” groups) shall not be permitted.

Section 9. Male membership, auxiliary groups such as “Big Brothers,” or permitting men to participate in such activities as, but not limited to, ritual, rush, composite pictures or formal chapter meetings, shall not be permitted in Phi Mu collegiate chapters.

Article V – Insignia, Symbols, Traditions, Use of Name

Section 1. Insignia

  1. The Phi Pin. All provisional members are required to wear the prescribed Phi pin of the Fraternity.

  2. The Badge. All badges shall be the property of the Fraternity.

    1. Upon initiation, each member shall be required to procure and permitted to wear the prescribed badge of the Fraternity, the title to which, however, shall remain always the property of Phi Mu Fraternity.

    2. Only initiated members of Phi Mu Fraternity are permitted to wear the membership badge, and it shall not be worn in a utilitarian manner.

    3. When a member of the Fraternity is dismissed or withdraws her membership her badge shall be turned over to the Executive Office by the Area Officer of the chapter to which she belonged.

    4. The badge of deceased members shall be returned to the Executive Office, unless buried with the member or bequeathed to a member of the Fraternity.

  3. The Recognition Pin. The Phi Mu Coat-of-Arms or the Greek letters ΦΜ in miniature size shall be the official Recognition Pin.

  4. The Coat-of-Arms, the Greek letters ΦΜ, the badge and the pins listed above are symbols of Phi Mu Fraternity. Any use of these symbols, alone or in combination with the name of Phi Mu, and any use of the name Phi Mu, except as noted in this Section, without the express permission of the Fraternity is prohibited as these are federally registered trademarks.

Section 2. Ordering and Use of Insignia

  1. Ordering of Insignia. All Phi Mu badges and Phi pins must be ordered through the Executive Office.

  2. The only insignia of the Fraternity which provisional members are permitted to wear are the Phi Pin and the Recognition Pin. Only initiated members are permitted to wear the Badge.

Section 3. Ordering and Use of Insignia

  1. The Colors of the Fraternity shall be rose and white.

  2. The Flower of the Fraternity shall be a rose-colored carnation.

Section 4. Traditions

  1. Founders’ Day. The fourth of March shall be known as Founders’ Day and shall be observed by Phi Lambda in commemoration of the founding of the Fraternity, publicly announced on March 4, 1852.

  2. Letter Days. Letter shirts are to be worn on Thursdays.

  3. Participating in Homecoming and Greek Week

  4. Annual Big/Little Sister Event – Held after the half way point during the Phi Program

  5. Philanthropy Events

    1. Semi-Annual Philanthropy Event benefiting Children’s Miracle Network

    2. Camp Dream Catcher, a Philanthropy event sponsored by West Chester University.

  6. Awards

    1. Annual Scholarship Awards

      1. Most Improved Scholarship Award

    2. Outstanding Freshman Member

    3. Outstanding Sophomore Member

    4. Outstanding Junior Member

    5. Outstanding Senior Member

    6. Sister of the Year

Article VI – Parliamentary Authority

The rules contained in the current edition of Robert’s Rules of Order, Newly Revised shall govern this Fraternity in all parliamentary procedure in which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with these Articles of Incorporation, Constitution, and Bylaws.

Article VII – Anti-Discrimination Policy

Phi Mu will not discriminate against any individual or group on the basis of age, race, sexual orientation, creed, religious beliefs, or disabilities.
Article VIII – Amendments

Section 1. These Bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the members in good standing (Article I, Section 1, A.2) of this chapter at any Formal Business meeting of the chapter, with notice of the proposed amendments at the previous Formal Business meeting of the chapter.
Section 2.These Bylaws shall be reviewed at least once a year and updated as necessary. Amended by two-thirds (2/3) Chapter Vote on December 1, 2008.
