What is a sizing estimate?

"A sizing estimate is an approximation of the hardware or software resources required to support an application set that is either currently implemented or new. It is a pre-sales effort aimed at addressing customer requirements. The level of effort and scope of sizing degree of variability can range from small to very significant. Sizing does not constitute a performance guarantee.”

Customer results may vary, and IBM assumes no liability for actual results that differ from any estimates provided by IBM.


Monitoring – Best Practices:
General best practices for monitoring recommend starting by collecting the minimal amount of monitoring data that will satisfy your business requirements. As your monitoring requirements grow, collection of additional metrics should be added in a controlled manner in order to ensure the metrics are useful to the organisation. The capacity planning estimate contained here-in is based on the feedback provided and the assumptions documented. If collection of additional monitoring data is likely in the future, either through the addition of more data sources, collection of more detailed data, or more frequent collection of data, then additional capacity will be required on the OPM Server.

The information used during this capacity planning was obtained from the OPM Capacity Planning Questionnaire completed by customer name.

In addition, the following assumptions have been made regarding the workload(s) being monitored by OPM and the activity on the monitored data servers.

Monitoring Recommendations:
The following monitoring configuration settings are recommended for this environment. Three options are listed using either the starter, best practices, or detailed diagnostics OPM predefined monitoring system templates. The OPM system templates encompass best practices for configuring OPM monitor settings for various pre-defined workloads. Any properties changed from the default template settings have been identified.
It is highly recommended using these monitoring settings when configuring OPM since this capacity estimate is based on these settings.


When customizing a profile, be sure to highlight the changes using the *1 and *2 superscript footnotes at the end of this section.

Also, remember to state which data source uses which profile>
#1 using the “…. starter” system templates:

The “…. starter” OPM system templates collect only basic information about the data sources. It is recommended to start with a “…. starter” system template and if more information is needed switch to a “… best practices” or “… detailed diagnostics” template. The retention time of collected information is kept short to limit the required disk space.
