Well I have finally gotten this to work, it has taken some time but its working and as a radia MSI.. I hope I dont lose anyone with these instructions..
Ok the issues with this adobe installer are as follows
When you create the AIP from the MSI it creates your admin install point folders; A retail MSI (which is not digitally signed) and a volume msi which is digitally signed(better known as Asnv.tmp, you cannot install anything licensed without these two files being in the same folder, and they are co-dependent.
If you modify either of the MSI’s you will get errors when you install a licensed version, so you simply cant do it. However the upside is the retail msi points to the AIP so you can use this.
You cannot install a trail version with an AIP that has unmodified MSI’s the installer wont let you do it (what this means is that when you are installing and get to the licencing part it will only let you install in licenced mode, so you cant capture the licence files via snapshot after you install). If you however modify the msi’s it automatically allows you to install a trial version, but guess what, when you install it wont let you licence it from the GUI adobe acrobat pro 9.0 interface, because the msi is unsigned it doesn’t provide the files to license in trial mode, so you are pretty cornered.
However you can get around it.. As you know version 5 of radia gets around this easily with the advanced (MSI) and select extra files options, us in radia 3 land do not have this luxury but we do have smarts..
Carry out the following to package Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0.
Get hold of your volume CD or installer from wherever and extract the files required to build your aip to the deskop
Create your AIP – cmd prompt type msiexec /a c:\location of folder\acropro.msi targetdir=c:\aip shortfilenames= true /qb
Install the customisation wizard and select your aip msi, make all the changes you require. (With the registration fields : - populate the username and company fields but leave the registration field blank) generate your transform but DO NOT save to the msi.
Get a blank packaging machine with only the radia packager on it, copy your created AIP to c drive of this workstation
Move the Asnv.tmp file to the desktop. At this stage we have an AIP with a unmodified retail installer.
Install your adobe acrobat trial version using the following command msiexec /i c:\aip\acropro.msi TRANSFORMS=c:\aip\mstname.mst /qb, this installs your app with all the options you require but simply not licensed.
Open up the customisation wizard and add your serial number to the mst. You will need to open the AIP msi then at the transform menu in the wizard open your MST. Again generate MST (overwriting the old) and close the wizard not writing to the msi
Add the Asnv.tmp file to your aip. You now have a licensed installation.
Open the add/remove programs control panel (appwiz.cpl at a command prompt) and leave it open. (Minimise to the toolbar if you like)
Open your radia publisher and carry out a Prescan of the machine.
Click add remove programs window and totally remove acrobat pro 9.0, don’t restart.
I have a bat file with this command in it so for me it is simply double click, up to you, saves creating more reg entries in the snapshot. At a command prompt again type msiexec /i c:\aip\acropro.msi TRANSFORMS=c:\aip\mstname.mst /qb. Restart your workstation
Open up your blinking publisher icon and carry out a post scan, the files and registry entries I have used are below, im pretty sure this is ALL you need.
Push this up to the server ( I have called my package Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0 Serial), and create a zservice for this package, you now have the registration information you need to work with an AIP with no ASNV.tmp file
Now go back to your aip again open the MST file with the wizard and remove the serial number, generate the MST (again overwriting the old MST) and again don’t save to the msi
As per normal publish up the AIP, selecting the MSI, the MST and the aip, this installer will as a trial version do everything it needs to in regards to installation, removal of old versions etc, all you need to do is register after it installs with your registration files..
Once completed create ZSERVICE for your AIP install above.
Then copy the ZSERVICE from the aip (step 20) and remove all the install meathods, repair, delete etc meathods and remove the aip package from this new ZSERVICE, give it a name like ADOBE_ACROBAT_9_PRO_GRP
Attach your AIP ZSERVICE to the ADOBE_ACROBAT_9_GRP ZSERVICE do the same with the ZSERVICE ,you created in 14, you have just created a 2 tier package. Attach to your user account and test.. Mine works a treat.
Apologies for the long instructions, but hopefully if you are experience radia user you will get the gist… Enjoy.
