Work History
XPAND Corporation – August 2003 to July 2011
Position: Web Site Developer
Department: Web Development
Projects:
Career Voyages Web Site
Tridion CMS Implementation
Virtual Career Network (VCN) – Health Care Web Site
Company Description: Started in 1991, XPAND Corporation is a provider of Information Technology services and solutions and has developed and managed mission-critical IT solutions for state and Federal agencies and commercial organizations. Specific Tasks (Career Voyages Web Site)
Created from scratch and maintained the Career Voyages web site. A joint effort of the Dept of Labor and the Dept of Education, this large site was created to highlight in-demand occupations in 17 high-growth industries. The primary target audience was 15-25 year old job seekers, but the site’s content was further divided by Students, Parents, Career Changers, and Career Advisors.
Although largely static, this site relied on several web services (XML/XSLT) to provide tie-ins to existing XPAND databases, to a 3rd party (nycareerzone.org) career assessment tool, and to existing Dept of Labor databases.
Because of its size and to make site maintenance easier, this site extensively used includes and a “wrapper” approach. As such, should the site need a complete overhaul in the future, just a few files would need to be changed.
Other features include a Verity site search, streaming videos, on-line polls (using MS Access), full 508 compliance, and Podcasts.
Created a “ColdFusion Notebook” web site as a means for sharing ColdFusion code and techniques.
Created an FTP emulator that enabled team members to FTP to our development server, which didn’t have FTP installed on it.
Wrote extensive site documentation.
Installed and configured Urchin web site analytics software.
Specific Tasks (Tridion CMS Implementation)
Wrote a very comprehensive, 164-page user manual on how to use a Tridion-based CMS (Career Management System) as implemented at the Office of Enterprise Technology (State of Minnesota).
Specific Tasks (Virtual Career Network (VCN) – Healthcare Web Site)
Performed business and technical analysis activities pertaining to the Virtual Career Network (VCN) site. This included making “best approach” recommendations on how occupation information was displayed and how to solve problems arising from 2009-2010 Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and Department of Education coding changes. I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge in the coding methodologies used at the BLS and the Department of Education.
